Grandma's House

Grandma’s House

featuring Kolder.

As restrictions eased I’ve been dying to work with people again and take everything I’ve learnt during this time into my work. This was shot at Kolder’s grandmother's property as they were moving out due to family conflict. Kolder’s approach to set design and styling was heavily influenced by the house they spent so much time in growing up in. In Kolder’s own words below:

I found my style when I noticed the things I appreciated were all a reflection of the two women that showed me kindness growing up, firstly my nan Lorna Agnes who trusted me with all her secrets and gifted me wooden ashtrays in the shape of two feet as a six year old and secondly Kay a neighbour whose had the same afro for the entirety of my life and who persistently taught me how to read and write when I didn't know how as a 9 year old.

The upholstered furnishings used to sit in the downstairs lounge area of Kay’s house, the bodily shaped lamp belonged to my grandmother and the all over vibe is a nostalgic recollection of being in their homes.
